SGT Group strengthens its recycling capabilities with a third extrusion line at its Chalon-sur-Saône site

The group’s total rPET production capacity to 44,000 tons per year

SGT Group announces its investment in a new extrusion and decontamination line at its SGR site in Chalon-sur-Saône, increasing the group’s total rPET production capacity to 44,000 tons per year. This strategic decision further demonstrates the Group’s commitment to the circular economy and to supporting its customers.

With its two SGR recycling facilities — 16,000 tons/year in Rezé (Loire-Atlantique) and 12,000 tons/year in Chalon-sur-Saône (Saône-et-Loire) — SGT Group currently produces 28,000 tons of rPET annually.

The installation of this new NGR line at the Chalon-sur-Saône site will add an additional 16,000 tons, bringing the Group’s total rPET production capacity to 44,000 tons per year by the end of 2027.

Higher performance and lower energy consumption technology

This equipment is based on the conical twin-screw extrusion technology developed by Austrian manufacturer NGR (Next Generation Recyclingmaschinen GmbH). Compared with the traditional single-screw NGR system already operating at the SGR site in Rezé, this LSP (Liquid State Polycondensation) technology, combined with vacuum degassing, is particularly suited for recycling PET bottle flakes.

It notably reduces energy consumption, improves rPET color quality, and further enhances the already high decontamination performance enabled by LSP technology.

This process improves both material decontamination and homogenization — two key factors in producing premium-quality rPET pellets suitable for food-grade applications.

“This new line marks another milestone in our commitment to the circular economy. With an annual production capacity of 44,000 tons of rPET, we are able to ensure our customers a reliable supply of high-quality rPET,” explains Frédéric Mignot, President of SGT Group.

Meeting rapidly growing demand

Faced with continuously evolving demand and an increasingly stringent regulatory environment, SGT Group is proactively addressing market challenges by securing a local, reliable, and high-quality supply chain.

“We are therefore giving ourselves the means to support our customers in their environmental transition,” emphasizes Frédéric Schryve, Chief Executive Officer of SGT Group.

Scheduled to become operational in 2028, this new line will contribute to the creation of direct and indirect jobs in the Chalon-sur-Saône area, further strengthening the Group’s local presence.
