In 2001, SGT continued to grow, opening a new preform manufacturing site in Rouïba, Algeria. The Algerian subsidiary, taking advantage of a rapidly growing market in North Africa, quickly attained the status of leader, and in 2013 it opened a second factory at Setif, in the north-east of the country. SGT Algérie SPA secures the future of its business, ensuring that its staff are trained in the latest injection processes. As of today, 280 Algerian employees have become experts, and contribute to keeping up the technological progress of the company.

A strategy of proximity
With the creation of its Algerian subsidiary, SGT is building closer relations with its customers in the Maghreb countries and brings them local solutions suited to their needs and lifestyles, while at the same time furthering its policy of social and environmental responsibility. In this way, the group has reproduced its know-how, exporting nine machines to the Setif site. The other factory, at Rouïba, is equipped with 16 injection presses for PET preforms. With offers adapted to local conditions, an industrial plant using the latest technology and experts with 30 years’ experience in the profession, SGT Algérie SPA has successfully consolidated its position as leader in the North African continent.

A comprehensive offer
In addition to PET preforms, SGT ALGERIE SPA completes its product range by offering eleven categories of caps in HDPE (high density polyethylene) to fit the necks: 29/25, 30/25 high neck ring, 33 mm, 38 mm, 38 mm Hot Fill, 28 mm, 48 mm, 28 PCO 1810/1881, and plastic handles for high capacities. A third site at Setif, entirely dedicated to caps, opened in May 2018. With its 7 injection presses for caps, SGT Algérie SPA increased its production capacity to 2 billion pieces per year.
HISTORY – FROM PVC COMPOUNDS TO PET PREFORMS
Foundation of the family business, Société Générale des Techniques (SGT), in Rezé, Loire-Atlantique. Supply of food-grade PVC-compound packaging to bottlers.
Exportation and enlargement of SGT France’s customer base.
Launch of the PET preforms injection-moulding business to satisfy customer demand, using four presses.
Investment in ten new injection presses by SGT France.
Establishment of a subsidiary, “SGT Algérie SPA”, at Rouïba, Algeria, producing PET preforms and HDPE caps.
The Rezé site equipped with 16 presses, Rouiba with 15. SGT offers a standard product range of 155 preforms with different geometries.
Inauguration of a second production site in Setif, eastern Algeria. SGT France awarded FSSC 22000 certification.
Investment by SGT France in five new, latest-generation injection presses, including one dedicated to multilayer applications.

Enlargement of the Rezé site and start of construction work on the new preform factory at Chalon-sur-Saône, Saône-et-Loire. Investment by SGT Algérie SPA in a third site at Setif entirely dedicated to the manufacture of HDPE caps.
